Education

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE, COMPUTER ENGINEERING AND COMPUTER SCIENCE,
    Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa.

Experience Highlights

GRACELAND UNIVERSITY, June 2001 – Present.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST, June 2001 – Present.

    • Manage & maintain the Informix 7.31 database engine.
Monitor engine performance, resize tables as needed, work with Unix Admin on backup process.
    • Systems Management of Jenzabar (CARS) systems by installing SMOs
Download and unpack all SMOs (System Modification Order) or PAs (Product Alerts) from the Jenzarbar web site. Then review the changes with the area specialist and make any localizations that are needed. After installing the SMO follow-up with area specialist on any issues that arise from the installation of the SMO.
    • Manage, maintain and troubleshoot HR & Accounting modules of CARS.

VOLT INTEGRATION SOLUTION GROUP, Contracted to Agilent Technologies, December, 1999 - January, 2001.

    PROCESS ENGINEER, December,1999 - January, 2001

    • Document current processes.
Talk with individuals involved in a process and develop a flowchart describing the process. Also work with the Tech writer if written documentation is needed.
    • Document new processes.
Work with individuals and groups involved in the process and develop a flowchart describing the process. Work with the tech writer if written documentation is needed.
    • Enhance and facilitate the reduction of bottlenecks in processes.
Work with individuals and / or teams to identify and eliminate bottlenecks in their processes.
    • Meeting and problem resolution facilitator

    FORD MOTOR COMPANY, 1992 - 1998.

    SYSTEMS ANALYST/DBA, 1996 - 1998.

    • Researched and created resource allocation proposal for Year 2000 project.
Reviewed all information gathered on the changes needed to the Hourly Personnel System (see item below), all literature on ways to resolve the Year 2000 issues and what was required to be Year 2000 compliant. Then identified, six options to resolve the Hourly Personnel Systems year 2000 issues. Wrote Proposal for resources with a primary and secondary option identified and all six options explained for management review and for management approval of option recommended.
    • Identified all data elements needed and source of data.
Researched all data elements in the Hourly Personnel Systems for date fields not Y2K compliant, then identify the source of the data (i.e. another task, screen input, outside data feed, etc.) Then identify all programs that use these data elements and whether there is data input, logic or database changes required for each of the 1250 programs. Then develop resource allocation proposal as described above.
    • Review and evaluate HP Operating System upgrades and HP's Y2K patches.
Review operating system upgrades from the programmer's view, maintain the on-line security program for the Hourly Personal Systems user community. Report operating system upgrade impact to the project members with work around and other solutions. Develop a migration plan from MPE classic mode to MPE Native mode.
    • Analyzed project problems and developed options for resolution.
    • Assist when needed with day-to-day maintenance program changes and correcting program bugs.

      LEAD SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR/CONVERSION SPECIALIST , 1992 - 1996.

    • Defined, designed and supported database systems.
The Purchasing System consisted of 8 IMAGE databases that needed periodical maintenance and changes to meet new requirements. These new requirements could have been governmental, corporate and / or business derived.
    • Converted Material Supply System from legacy system to new database.
Ford enhanced one of their Purchasing Systems to be the Global Purchasing System, I defined, and designed the programs to extract data from my system to be loaded to this global system. Also assisted in the definition of changes needed in the Global Purchasing System to accommodate the uniqueness of the component divisions. After the data was extracted, loaded and the users where using the global system, was responsible to archiving the data and programs of the old purchasing system.
    • Served as liaison between systems department and worldwide end-users.
Assigned to Purchasing Department from the Information Technology Department to help in prioritizing all needed enhancements and coordinate the conversion from the local system to the global purchasing system.

PROJECT LEADER/SR. SYSTEMS ANALYST/PROGRAMMER, on contract to Ford Motor Company, 1985 - 1992.

    • Wrote, maintained and upgraded 480+ programs.
The Purchasing System I was Project Leader over, managed 3 billion dollars worth of purchase orders for Ford's component manufacturing divisions. It consisted of just over 480 TRANSACT programs, which had to be maintained, enhanced and changed to meet customer requirements, automation initiatives and governmental and/or corporate regulations.
    • Design, maintained and upgraded 8 IMAGE database holding Purchasing's data.
Completely designed four of the databases and made major design enhancements to the other four. All eight databases had numerous enhancements to accommodate changes in the business practices. There were a few changes needed due to operating system or database upgrades.
    • Designed and implemented bridges to corporate IBM systems.
Design and wrote programs to extract data from the IMAGE databases and electronically transfer them to a flat file on one of the corporate IBM mainframes for processing by a corporate systems (i.e. Accounting payable system). There where about a dozen of these bridges written.
    • Converted two Automotive Component Divisions to enhanced database technology with a system that tracked $5 billion.
Design, wrote and tested programs on the HP to load extracted data from old Honeywell systems to the Purchasing's IMAGE databases.
    Additional Information

    Operating Systems Experience:
I started using the HP3000 (Model III) at Graceland College in the fall of 1980, the college used HP3000's for both their academic users as well as their administrative users. I believe the Model III was running MPE 3.0. The Summer of 1982 I became a student programmer for the college and started working with IMAGE and TRANSACT. While working at Ford Motor CO. I worked on a number of different models and versions of MPE. My last assignment we had just upgraded the iX version of MPE but ran in classic mode. I prepared the migration plan to go migrate from classic mode before I left.
    Database Experience:
I have been designing and developing IMAGE and TurboImage databases since 1983, giving me extensive experience with databases. While at Ford I took over half of the needed classes to be certified as an Oracle DBA. I recently took two Informix DBA classes. Managing & Optimizing IBM Informix Dynamic Server Database and IBM Informix Dynamic Server Administration.
